This day is considered an unofficial, admittedly redundant, holiday by Star Wars fans to celebrate Star Wars culture and remember the films. 

May 4 is called Star Wars Day (also sometimes known as Luke Skywalker Day) because of the popularity of a common pun spoken on this day. Since the phrase “May the Force be with you” is a famous quote often spoken in the Star Wars films, fans commonly say “May the fourth be with you” on this day. (Wiki)

Note from Ron: When I made this image today, rather than get up from my desk and grab the DVD of Episode 4 to get a screenshot, I downloaded the movie. This proves 2 things: #1. Technology is amazing. It only takes a few minutes for me to have an HD copy of something that, as a kid, I could only see when it was in theaters. #2. I am really becoming one lazy fuck. 

Bonus #3. I actually knew all of this info about Star Wars off the top of my head which could legally rank me as an “uber-nerd” so… I’ve got that goin’ for me.
